Trainer’s Room: Vladimir Guerrero Out at Least 4 Weeks (Chest)

Â
Just when you thought Dr. Lewis Yocum and the Angels training staff had enough on their hands trying to mend the team’s pitching staff, today they learned their most potent bat will likely be sidelined until June.
Vladimir Guerrero was diagnosed with a pectoral tear today, and though he has been dealing with the pain while DH’ing for the Halos, Â the team has elected to rest the slugger while they determine the best course of action.
At this point, there isn’t a ton of information, but based on the comments of Angels’ manager Mike Scioscia, they are hoping for the best, but hedging on the worst.
“Obviously, short of needing surgery, this is a big blow,” said Scioscia. “We don’t have a timetable right now. We’ll see how it progresses.”
It will be interesting to see whether former Angel Jim Edmonds enters the discussion as a potential replacement for Vladi…this also should bode well for Gary Matthews Jr. owners who should benefit as a result of the injury.
