Trainer’s Room: Rickie Weeks Out for Season (Wrist)
Posted by Mike Caprio May 18, 2009
Milwaukee Brewers’ Second Baseman Rickie Weeks will undergo season ending surgery to repair a sheath in his left wrist. Â Weeks, who injured his wrist yesterday during an at-bat against the Cardinals, will require a 6-9 month recovery and rehab.
Craig Counsell will receive the bulk of the playing time at 2B, which will promote him to a “super” utility in most leagues, qualifying at 3B, SS, and soon at 2B. Â The bigger question will be how Brewers General Manager Doug Melvin manages his personnel. Â You have to believe that this will translate into perplexing management of existing players—including Bill Hall, and Mat Gamel, to try and fill the offensive void of Weeks.
Weeks started the season on a tear, hitting .272 with 9 HR’s and 24 RBI’s.
Weeks still remains among the top 2nd basemen in baseball and should be DL’d in all Keeper Leagues.
