Josh Hamilton owners are collectively “holding their breath” on the status of their 2008 breakout fantasy centerfielder.  Hamilton returned to the Disabled List on Tuesday due to an abdominal strain being classified as a sports hernia.   This injury is attributed to a collision with the outfield wall against the Angels on May17th…the second such time wall collision has cost the centerfielder time on the disabled list.

If rest and rehabilitation are unable to reduce inflammation, it would likely require surgery, a “worst case scenario” according to Rangers’ management.

That “worst case scenario” would keep Hamilton out of the Rangers’ lineup until Mid-August.

This injury has frustrated Hamilton owners and Rangers’ management after a stellar 2008 with a line of:

.304 AVG 32 HR, 130 RBI, 9 SB, .371 OBP, .530 SLG (901 OPS)

In 138 at-bats this season Hamilton has put up:

.240 AVG 6 HR, 24 RBI, .290 OBP, .456 SLG (746 OPS)

Hamilton owners should hold out hope for a successful rehab which should permit him to join the Rangers on June 16th.

For those who want to “roll the dice” on a potential impact (but risky) move, could make a play to “buy low” on Hamilton, in hopes he will return to form sometime in June.
