“Hello Old Friend”, said Carpenter to the Disabled List.

All joking aside, this will make 9 separate trips to the disabled list since 1999 for the former Cy Young winner.  Good news is this time, the culprit is not his arm, it’s a strain to his rib cage suffered while batting against the Diamondbacks last night.  The Cardinals have indicated that they would decide whether his condition would warrant a trip to the DL today. Update: Noah Coslov of MLB.com, is reporting that LaRussa has confirmed that Carpenter will be out 4-8 Weeks

Asked about his thoughts on a return date, Carpenter responded, “I have no idea,” he said. “I’ve never done it before. I know it’s pretty sore now.”

Mitchell Boggs and Chris Perez were recalled, with Boggs likely to fill-in during Carpenter’s absence…Look for a call-up of Jess Todd or Clayton Mortensen from AAA Memphis if Boggs is unable to hold down the job.
