This is a first half transcript of the Eagles linebackers vs the Jaguars offense (August 27, third pre-season game). The loss of Stewart Bradley has opened up numerous tackles opportunities for other players. It should be noted the Eagles announced after this game that Omar Gathier has taken over for Joe Mays. After reading this transcript, you’ll agree that’s a smart move.

AJ = Akeem Jordan, #56

JM = Joe Mays, #51

CG = Chris “King Kong” Gocong, #57

4th & 6, Eagles punt

AJ on coverage unit and participates in gang tackle

1st & 10 – pass

AJ crowds line, picks up RB out of backfield to prevent screen.

JM blitzes up middle – decent pressure

CG blitzes, stuffed at line

2nd & 10 – pass

AJ lined up at Sam, follows TE in flat

JM at Mike

CG drops back, heads to open WR in slot

3rd & 2 – pass

AJ lined up at Will, follows RB into flat

JM stays in middle of field – zone coverage

CG lined up at Sam, follows TE

Eagles kickoff after 1st quarter field goal

AJ and CG on kickoff coverage team

1st & 10 – JAX with 2 TE’s on field, one on each side of line, sweep towards AJ

AJ second man (behind Cole) to make tackle

JM moved backwards by left guard, contact occurred 5 yds upfield

CG shows blitz, decent penetration on run

2nd & 8 – draw towards AJ

AJ steps backwards anticipating pass, third man to tackle

JM steps backwards anticipating pass, fourth man to tackle

CG nickel package, off field

3rd & 7 – pass out of shotgun

AJ lined up in middle of field, blitz, gets contact with QB

JM lined up over RB crowding line of scrimmage, blitz, stuffed by RB

CG nickel package, off field

1st & 10 – pass

AJ lined up at Will, knocks down FB trying to go on pass route, pops him for good measure while FB is on ground

JM covers RB in flat

CG lined up at Sam, covers TE on slant pattern over middle, lost a step, but QB wants to throw deep

1st & 20 (after holding call) – JAX with 2 TE’s on field, one on each side of line, then one goes in motion towards CG, handoff out of shotgun towards AJ

AJ makes tackle

JM caught in wash at line of scrimmage

CG lined up at Sam over twin TE set, fights around block, second man to tackle

2nd & 13 – three WR set, pass

AJ crowding line between LG and C, blitz, blocked at line

JM crowding line between RG and C, blitz, good pressure, forces QB to slide

CG nickel package, off field

3rd & 13 – shotgun, 2RB set

AJ lined up over TE, follows him in flat, gives up very short pass, makes tackle

JM lined up over RB, follows him in flat

CG off field, replaced by Chris Clemons in middle of field, slow blitz, stuffed by left guard.

4th & 10, Eagles punt

AJ and CG on punt team

1st & 10 – run

AJ lined up at Sam, but TE goes in motion so now he’s the Will, blows up FB in backfield

JM washed out at line, nowhere near the play

CG once TE stops motion, crowds line, sheds off lineman, ends up near tackle

2nd & 9 – play-action pass

AJ lined up over TE, drops back into zone coverage

JM bites on play-action, but able to cover RB out of backfield

CG nickel package, off field

3rd & 9 – shotgun pass

AJ crowds line between RG & C, blitz, fooled badly on screen

JM lined up over WR where you see a nickel CB play, immediately blitzes

CG off field, replaced by Chris Clemons

1st & 10 – play-action pass, QB breaks all LB’s ankles but no WR is open

AJ lined up at Will, TE comes in motion towards him

JM lined up at Mike

CG lined up at Sam

2nd & 10 – screen

AJ lined up at Will on line of scrimmage, blitz, rolls off lineman, but pass is to opposite side of field

JM drops back a few yards off line, pass comes directly to him, instead of hitting RB he runs into lineman’s back (yes, lineman was facing the wrong direction), misses tackle badly

CG lined up at Sam on line of scrimmage, blitz, screen goes right over him

1st & Goal from 8 – run towards AJ

AJ lined up at Sam, in on tackle

JM lined up at Mike, nowhere near tackle

CG lined up at Will, nowhere near tackle

2nd & Goal from 6 – shotgun

AJ lined up at Will, creeps toward line, follows RB in flat

JM drops back, covers WR in slot

CG lined up at Sam, makes tackle after first man missed

3rd & Goal from 5 – shotgun, TD

AJ man coverage on TE

JM follows RB out in flat

CG off field

1st & 10 – dump off pass to RB

AJ lined up 5 yards off line in space where you’d see a nickel CB play, close to tackle

JM lined up at Mike, has hard time fighting off FB block after dump off pass

CG lined up at Sam, pass towards him, fights to get in on tackle

2nd & 5 – shotgun, flag, false start

AJ creeps towards line directly over center, blitz

JM creeps towards line directly over center, blitz

CG nickel package, off field

2nd & 10 – shotgun handoff

AJ creeps in over center, pulls out leaning towards TE side of field, in on tackle

JM pulls out towards flat, has no idea it’s a handoff as his eyes are looking for a receiver to cover

CG nickel package, off field

3rd & 7 – shotgun pass

AJ lined up on RB side of field, sits in zone over middle

JM lined up on TE side of field, sits in zone over middle

CG nickel package, off field

Conclusion: Akeem Jordan is the linebacker to own
