When Tom Glavine booked his ticket to Birmingham to see Dr, James Andrews this afternoon, the clock officially started on the “Tommy Hanson Call-Up Watch”.

The Braves have some less desirable options including Jorge Campillo and Jo-Jo Reyes (Reyes has been called up for a spot start), but with Tommy Hanson’s last start at AAA (4.1 Inn, 3 Hits, 0 Runs, 2 BB, 10 K), there’s really no reason to keep him in Gwinnett, Ga, other than to “stall” his arbitration clock.

If he is still available in your league (and if he is you need a more competitive league), pick him up.  He is a must-own Keeper in all Fantasy formats.  I would look for a May 15th call-up, or sooner if Glavine is unable to return to the rotation.

  • [...] When I posted that Hanson’s call-up was imminent two weeks ago after Tom Glavine went to see Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham,  it received as much attention as any prospect post on Keeper League GM this season.   [...]

What’s he latest on Tommy “Gun” Hanson?

    Dennis:

It’s a bit puzzling to me. The Braves called up Medlen, but left Hanson at AAA Gwinnett. As he has done all season, Hanson (after being moved up to Medlen’s rotation spot) threw 7 shutout innings on Thursday, with two hits, one walk and 7 K’s. (64 K’s in 47 2/3 Innings)
To me, this is a clear case of a team trying to avoid a Super 2 because he has nothing left to prove at AAA.

Once they really need him in Atlanta, he will be up. My guess is that will in early June…maybe sooner.

    Mike
