Fantasy Baseball Stock Watch: Dennys Reyes: Closer in St. Louis?

larussa-reyesTony LaRussa may finally rest easy in his series against the Pirates as Dennys Reyes closed out a one run victory for Chris Carpenter.

Carpenter was brilliant in 7 Innings of work, yielding just 1 hit with no earned runs, and 7 Strikeouts for the Cardinals in his first start since last season.

After calling on Ryan Franklin for the hold in the 8th, LaRussa called on Reyes to face Nate McLouth, Ryan Doumit and Craig Monroe (pinch hitting for Eric Hinske) to close the game.

My guess is that LaRussa will go with the “hot hand” until someone establishes himself as the “go-to” for save opportunities.  Dennys Reyes, Jason Motte, Chris Perez (when he’s called back up) and Ryan Franklin will all likely receive save opportunities throughout 2009, depending on the situation.
