Still no word on the severity of Wes Welker’s knee injury. Let’s take a look at all of the key NFL Week 17 fantasy injuries.
New England Patriots fans are cringing after the news of a potentially serious injury to the league’s most prolific pass-catcher. Wes Welker hurt his left knee, and needed assistance getting off the field. While on the sidelines, he was seen cursing/yelling on the bench, which eventually gave way to tears. A cart was summoned, which took Welker to the locker room. It doesn’t take a detective to determine that there is a high probability Welker will not be a part of the post season.
Hopefully you were around a computer at 3pm EST. That’s when Rams workhorse running back Steven Jackson was declared inactive. He’s been playing with a few different ailments lately – the most serious being a sore back from carrying the pathetic Rams. Panther’s wide receiver Steve Smith is one of the toughest players in all of football. He caught a 22-yard pass over the middle, was clobbered by a Giants safety, hung onto the football, and stayed on his feet for the final 5 yards of a 27-yard TD catch. It was also his last play of the season, as his broke his forearm on the play. Falcons’ tight end Tony Gonzalez missed much of the game versus the lowly Bills with a calf injury. Running back Pierre Thomas missed all of the second half, and Brandon Jacobs can never be trusted to make it through any given game. Michael Turner lasted one carry versus the Jets on Sunday. If you started him for your Fantasy Playoffs, no doubt you’ll never forgive him. Rookie of the Year candidate Brian Cushing left week 15 with a foot injury. As I type, DeAngelo Williams reinjured the same ankle that caused him to miss some time a few weeks back. Other than that, it was a fairly light week in terms of injuries:

Another December loss for the Cowboys, and IDP owners may have lost DeMarcus Ware. He was strapped to a backboard and carted off the field. Sure, he gave the fans a thumbs up and some fancy “W” finger gesture, but IDP owners would rather have seen him walk off the field. Kevin Smith Dynasty/Keeper owners – find a new RB in 2010.
