The top pitcher selected in the 2008 MLB Amateur draft, Brian Matusz, made his major league debut yesterday at Comerica Park in Detroit last night—beating the Detroit Tigers, while giving up only 1 run.

It’s confirmed—Chris Tillman will be called-up to start against the Royals at Camden Yards on Wednesday.

As we wrote on Thursday, it appeared to be a “Fait accompli” that Tillman would join the O’s rotation in the coming weeks, but as Grant Paulsen @Minors and Majors reports via Twitter, Tillman will oppose Zack Greinke Wednesday night in Baltimore to begin his major league career.

Now it’s official—the St. Louis Cardinals traded their top hitting prospect, third baseman Brett Wallace, pitcher Clayton Mortensen and outfielder Shane Peterson for free agent-to be, Matt Holliday.

Wallace won’t likely join the A’s in Oakland this season, outside of an abbreviated call-up, but should serve as their starting third baseman Opening Day of 2010.
