Good luck trying to decipher the “leaks” out of Patriots’ camp when it comes to last season’s Defensive Rookie of the Year. Jerod Mayo, the Patriots leading tacker in 2008 suffered an MCL sprain in his right knee Monday night against the Buffalo Bills.
Patriots’ camp doesn’t deny that it’s a Type III sprain, that could conceivably shelve the IDP-star for up to 8 weeks. However, I would expect Mayo to rejoin the
Brian Urlacher owners suffered the first fantasy-related season ending injury of 2009, after the Bears’ defensive leader dislocated his right wrist during last night’s loss against the Packers.
If you are an Urlacher owner or in need a MLB, Hunter Hillenmeyer replaced Urlacher last night and may be a safe pick-up, however ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that former Buccaneer LB Derrick Brooks is in discussions to join the Bears
I missed both games en route to Las Vegas this afternoon, but according to Mike Florio at ProFootballTalk Donovan McNabb, who suffered a broken rib against the Panthers today, will miss the Eagles second game of the season against the Saints.
The challenge for the Eagles will be who will start in McNabb’s absence since Vick is ineligible to return until Week Three, and last year’s back-up A.J. Feeley was released

James Davis, a 6th round rookie sleeper out of Clemson ready to “make good” for the Browns this season at tailback, was involved in a one car automobile crash yesterday that may impact his ability …
If you’re a Reggie Bush or Mike Bell owner (or a Drew Brees owner), you should see an increase this week in production with Pierre Thomas sidelined due to a slow healing MCL sprain suffered in the pre-season.
If you’re a Pierre Thomas owner, look for him to return Week Two against the Eagles, where he will be needed to offset the Philly Blitzkrieg in their home opener

It appears that all of the talk this off-season by the Tennessee Titans coaching staff about how they didn’t believe the departure of DT Albert Haynesworth would affect their defense, proved to be “spot on” …
In most circles, the fact that Tim Lincecum was scratched today with back stiffness would headline the playbill, however at Keeper League GM, the much anticipated major league debut of one of the top prospects in baseball takes center stage.
Tonight, Madison Bumgarner will slot into Lincecum’s start, opposing Kevin Correia at home against the San Diego Padres.
Back in May we highlighted the Giants’ top pitching prospect as part of our
Steelers inside linebacker Lawrence Timmons will likely miss the season opener Thursday night at home against the Titans.
Keep up with News and Notes from Around the NFL as we head towards Week One of the 2009 Fantasy Football Season
In case you missed the news out of New England this morning, the Patriots have agreed to ship 5-time pro-bowler Richard Seymour to the Oakland Raiders for a 1st round pick in 2011.
Seymour could be an incredible find at DE in a 4-3, coming off career highs in sacks in 2008, however, word out of Oakland has Seymour playing DT in the Raiders’ base…
Fantasy owners have been relatively fortunate during this pre-season, avoiding the devastating injury that destroys fantasy seasons before they start.
It appears that tonight Fantasy Football GM’s dodged another bullet when Top-3 Fantasy RB Maurice Jones-Drew left the Jaguars final pre-season game tonight with a “bruised right leg”, after 6 touches for 17 yards in the opening series of the game.

Unbelievably, today is the last day of August, and come Labor Day, the closing chapter on yet another summer.
For many of you, your annual Fantasy draft has completed, leaving you to sit around watching your top picks during exhibition, holding your breath hoping to avoid catastrophic injuries for the remainder of the pre-season.
For Matt Cassel fans, though it’s not quite catastrophe, there is bad…

This is a weird time of year for me to be talking about Fantasy Baseball.
Many apologies to our thousands of readers who focus exclusively on baseball—only to have the last three weeks dominated on the site by Fantasy Football.
I mention again that it’s a weird time because in most leagues, including my own, July 31st signals the day when all trading is done for…

Tomorrow, according to ESPN’s Matt Berry, is the biggest fantasy football draft day of the season.
Though it’s not the case in my leagues, each of whom have been doing a slow draft for three weeks, it may be for you…so…
To aid those who will begin the annual draft celebration today or tomorrow, we have attached two cheat sheets for your benefit.
The first is a…

Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio may have jumped the gun on Roy Williams’ apparent Collarbone fracture, but until an MRI confirms the X-rays’ initial diagnosis, it’s a safebet to stay away from Williams.
In case you missed the story, Cowboys receiver Roy Williams collided with cornerback Orlando Scandrick during Cowboys’ “padless” practice on Thursday night.
If, in fact, it appears there is a break of some kind, it…

The Raiders’ leading tackler, middle linebacker Kirk Morrison, dislocated his left elbow in the first quarter pre-season contest at home last night against the 49ers.
From the insult/inujry department, not only did the Raiders’ make rookie 3rd round running back Glen Coffee look like Walter Payton (100 yards on 8 carries), they will lose their leading run stopper for at least 3 weeks—making him questionable for the…

Don’t you just love pre-season?
In this case, the season-ending injury to Giants’ rookie running back Andre Brown was suffered on the practice field in Albany last night. Big Blue’s 4th round pick out of NC State apparently suffered the injury while attempting to bring down a pass with Linebacker Gerris Wilkinson in coverage.
Immediately Brown fell to the ground and was carted off the field.
The injury…

If you’re a Broncos fan I am already sorry.
If you’re a Knowshon Moreno Fantasy owner, you just dodged a bullet.
Last night, while Bronco’s Quarterback Kyle Orton was hosting pass catching drills for the 49ers, Moreno departed after just three carries with an apparent knee injury.
Moreno’s MRI today revealed a sprain of his knee, and according to sources from Pro Football Talk at worst the…

Last night, during an otherwise pedestrian news cycle, the Eagles announced that they had come to terms on a two year contract with Michael Vick.
The questions now begin: What does that mean for the Eagles? And specifically for in this forum: Is he a worthy Fantasy pick?
Let’s take the first question, because first and foremost we are all football fans.
The first thing this signing…

Alcides Escobar, the Milwaukee Brewers’ Shortstop of the future, is as of this afternoon, the Brewers Shortstop of today.
Among a flurry of baseball operation and roster moves today, including the DFA of Bill Hall and the firing of pitching coach Bill Castro, Brewers’ GM Doug Melvin optioned struggling Shortstop JJ Hardy to AAA Nashville, and replaced him with Escobar, the top prospect in the…

Word out of Panthers camp yesterday has star WR Steve Smith missing at least two weeks with a right shoulder strain. Good news for Smith-fantasy owners is that X-Rays on the shoulder were negative, but given the discomfort Smith will likely undergo an MRI to rule out any surrounding tissue damage over the next few days.
The Charlotte Observer quoted Smith’s agent Derrick Fox…

Uh Oh.
For those Reggie Bush owners (of which I am one), who hope that Bush will wrestle back carries from Pierre Thomas this season, I have some early, but troubling news.
Pro Football Talk reported today from Saints camp, after Bush had an MRI on his sore left knee earlier in the week, he was unable to complete practice this morning.
Bush was seen icing his…

The top pitcher selected in the 2008 MLB Amateur draft, Brian Matusz, made his major league debut yesterday at Comerica Park in Detroit last night—beating the Detroit Tigers, while giving up only 1 run.
The young lefthander struck out 5 Tigers in 5 Innings, topped 94 MPH, and threw first-pitch strikes in 18 of his first 24 batters to secure his first major league win.
With…

The Philadelphia Eagles were dealt a big defensive blow today when they learned that Middle Linebacker Stewart Bradley suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during a scrimmage Sunday night, effectively ending his season.
Bradley, a third-round draft pick in 2007, had 151 tackles last year — his first full season as a starter. Bradley will likely be replaced by Omar Gaither, the one-time starter whom Stewart…
